Study Description

Title:
California Condor Research and Technicial Assistance

Status: Active

Synopsis:
Historically, California condors inhabited the coastal mountains of western North America from British Columbia to Baja California, but by 1850 they had become scarce north of California. To date, there have been no attempts to evaluate the feasibility of reintroducing condors to the Pacific Northwest. The USGS is taking the first step by collaborating with the State of Oregon and interested Tribes in developing habitat and threats models for condors within Oregon. This research represents the first rigorous assessment of condor habitat suitability in the Pacific Northwest.
