- Abstract:
-
The Vertebrate Habitat Relationships Data Bank (VHRDB) contains data from 23 separate studies conducted primarily in the Oregon Coast Range and the western side of the Oregon Cascade Range. The 300+ sampled stands span a range of Douglas-fir forest conditions, including clearcuts with and without experimental snag and downed-log retention treatments, plantations, young managed stands with and without thinning, and naturally regenerated young, mature, and old-growth forests. A limited number of studies sampled coastal upland and riparian hardwood stands. Observational data sets consist primarily of stand-level surveys of breeding birds and of ground-dwelling vertebrates (i.e. small mammals, amphibians, and to a limited extent, reptiles). The level of information available for each study ranges from raw observational records (i.e. species' observations and habitat measures from individual sample points) to stand-level summaries.
- Purpose:
-
The goal of the Vertebrate Habitat Relationships Data Bank (VHRDB) is to provide an organized and documented repository of empirical wildlife-habitat data sets from throughout western Oregon. The purpose of VHRDB is to facilitate access to data from multiple studies for more inclusive assessments of habitat relationships of vertebrate species over a range of forest conditions and by geographic area. Moreover, the VHRDB serves as a primary source of information for development of new species-habitat models and for testing and enhancing existing models.
