- Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: spreadsheet
- Description:
-
- Abstract:
-
Downed log data collected for the testing of songbird-habitat relationship models. These data were collected for each of 50 forest stands located on public and private forest land in the western Cascades of Oregon in the vicinity of Cottage Grove, Oregon, in 1998 and 1999.
- Purpose:
-
These data were collected specifically for testing previously developed habitat-relationship models.

The number of transects used for data collection was determined by stand size (acreage) and represented approximately 10 % of the area of the stand. The transects measured 20-m x 200-m and were randomly placed throughout each stand. The azimuth of the transect was also randomly selected. A 100-ft (30-m) line intercept transect was established at one end of the belt transect. Downed logs were defined as a dead tree that has fallen to the ground or is severed from its original source of growth. A leaning dead tree is "down" if the bole is leaning 45 degrees from vertical and one end is in contact with the ground. Downed logs which crossed either above or below the line and met the above criteria were tallied. The horizontal and vertical diameters and length were measured. Diameters were measured to the nearest inch; length to the nearest foot.
